International Master Robert Shlyakhtenko has been ranked in the Top 75 players nationally and as high as #2 for his age group. He is a 6-time member of the U.S. All-American Team, became the youngest-ever Southern California State Champion in 2019, and writes regularly for Chess Life. He has substantial experience coaching in both group and private settings, and several of his students rank in the Top 100 U.S. players for their age.
Robert’s recent playing successes include shared 3rd place in the 2023 Biel Chess Festival (Switzerland) and 1st place in the 2023 Pan-American Youth Championship (U-18 section). He has also won multiple awards for chess writing, including a Chess Journalists of America Honorable Mention for “Best Story of the Year” for his August 2022 Chess Life article on the first Fischer – Spassky match. Currently, Robert is a freshman at Brown University and intends to study pure mathematics.
